Today, we are heading back towards civilization, 5.30 hours drive up to Adelaide. Unfortunately, there is nothing to see… When I see nothing, it is nothing.. basically the same landscape for 5 hours… Erik is so tired of this monotonous road that I have to take the wheel… bou, me don’t know how to drive on the left side of the road, actually it is not that bad… what it is awful are the blinkers! You keep trying to work the windshield wipers instead ! The speed limit is 110 on the freeways here, and we kept wondering all the way why Australians were not speeding… it is crazy, we were going 120-140 at times, passing all these cars ( mmm, maybe not that much as there are not a lot of people on those freeways in fact) going at 110 sharp ! We have actually two theories for that, the first one is that you can really get in troubles or/and pays a huuuugee fees ( AUD 200 as a waiter told us later on at dinner, which actually does not make that first option plausible). The second one is that they are actually very, but very scared of hitting a kangaroos, or something else (that one also is kind of weak when you see the amount of dead animals on the road, apparently, that does not make a difference if you are at 110 or 120 …) If anybody has an explanation, just let us know… until then, we will keep playing the kings of the road !
Adelaide is a beautiful city, very clean and friendly. Also concentrated, but less crowded than Melbourne. We left our car to our hotel, which is perfectly situated in Adelaide, and walked around. It is 32 degrees today, nice and warm, but not humid which is the kind of weather I like !
We walk on When we go back to our hotel, we are just dead, we once again walked for hours… So tired in fact that I jump in the fountain to cool off my feet ! We rest an hour before going back to Gaucher Street that we visited earlier on to have dinner at Graucho’s, the best steak place in town… and oh my god, once again, we have a fantastic dinner, number one so far ! The steaks are humongous, the vegetables perfectly cooked and buttery, and the potatoes crispy to perfection! And for the first time on the trip, Erik got a shirazthat is actually very good !!
