We slept soooo good, the Casa Favilla is just a little piece of heaven ! We had a breakfast with the host Gerald, talking about our next route, and left around 10am.
Today, it is sightseeing day !! A lot to see on the great Ocean Road ! First stop in Port Campbell to admire the 12 Apostles. Actually, there are only 8 remaining, the other collapses due to erosion. What will take about an hour and half, will take us 6, there are so many things to see !
It is simply breath-taking, so beautiful, it was so cold, only 13 degrees today with a nice icy cold wind, but it was worth the walk.
These huge monoliths have been carved out of the soft limestone headland from thousands of years of fierce ocean waves. You can admire the beautiful coast up to Port Campbell, where we decide to have lunch. First time we get disappointed with our book recommendation, the food was disgusting at the Waves, felt like left overs from other people meals bou
We walk along the street, which is mainly 3 houses... no, I am exaggerating, but it is really small.
Our next stop on the road is The Grotto, a magnificent rock erosion that forms a grotto, a magical place that make you realize the full beauty of nature
We make a detour by Warrnambool, where you can admire whales but unfortunately it is not the season to see them as they stay in this region until September then migrate to the North. We visit the reconstruction of their Maritime village, little playhouse village where they have a very known laser show at night. We have a little Bloody Marry on the terrace, then head towards the first National Park of Victoria, the Tower Hill Reserve. A beautiful wildlife reserve nestled inside a dormant volcano. Koalas, emus, kangaroos, sugar gliders and many species of waterbirds can often be seen. We saw a lot of emus, and one koala... better than nothing :)
We finally arrived at Port Fairy at around 6pm, and went directly to our accommodation, Douglas by the River. The receptionist was a very nice guy, that also worked in a jazz band and at Port Fairy nicest restaurant, the Portofino. He made us come to his restaurant and especially order two enormous salad with vegetables, and a fruit salad ... aaahhh fruits and veggies, I was starting to feel sick hihi Needed to recharge our batteries with vitamins!
We finished our evening by taking a walk by the ocean where the birds come at night to nest. This is where I made MY encounter of the trip, a little wallaby that was right there, probably caught by high tide and could not reached the coast (he looked awfully confused to me, but apparently, this happen often and I have been assured that he will be fine, therefore, no need to call the sign Save Your Wildlife on the side of the parking hihi )
