This town seems to be from a Western movie, there is an old candy shop with home made candies and chocolates, a bakery, several coffee place, and some clothes and gift stores. The all town, despite some modern restaurant, seemed stuck in time.
On the morning we have our breakfast in our lounge area, a gourmet basket made with fresh products such as yogurt, peaches chutney, bread, cereals, simple but delicious and fresh.
We make a little walk (little as it takes us 5 minutes to go around ahah) to the Saturday market. It is just so charming, all the local people gather together to propose their products, we have the grand-ma selling her jams, the old guy selling strawberries, and more… my craving for fruits take me to the strawberries, and boy, they are good !!!
We get some food for the night and finally hit the road. We have about 2 hours up to the Grampians. On the way, I have to stop, let’s say for a little urgency… I laugh with Erik as I am afraid to have my b… bitten by a kangaroos… that is exactly at this moment, that a kangaroo goes out of the bush, cross the road in front of us and disappear… I swear, that was a funny moment !
We stop at several lookout along the way, and arrives at Halls Gap around 3am.
Halls Gap is even smaller than every town we visited, it is just full of accomodation, hotels etc... it feels like Sedona, we love it !
We go the Information center to get some maps of the parks and must-see places, and got to our accommodation for the night, Lake Fayans HolidayPark. It is about 12 min from Halls gap, it is a caravan park but it feels like true vacation. We have the cutest cabin, and decided to have lunch on the balcony, huge Ceasar salad and tuna salad sandwich, just perfect !
The rest of the afternoon will be by the pool, just relaxing in the water, reading our books on the long chair, feels like vacation, do not need more than that !!
Before going to dinner in town, we drive around up to Mackenzie falls. It is a 40 minutes drive, but it is worth it, it is truly beautiful.
The dinner is not even worth talking about, we had a little argument with the waiter as we got screwed, but apart from the garlic bread, for the best restaurant in town, it was very disappointing…
On the way back, we stop abruptly on the road… All the kangaroos are out !! Dozens of them are gently having dinner right in front of caravans and hotel rooms, they are all standing there, on the fields, and all along the way back to our cabin. After waiting to see some during the day, here they are…Just posing for our pictures !
Then, we see some police lights on the road, aie, erik had two huge beers… of course, we get pull over and the policeman ask Erik to do an alcohol test ! Fortunately, it is all clear. That is when I start chatting with the policeman about the kangaroos ahaha
Then, a bit further down, we see the police car waving at us with his blue and red lights, oups, what now ? “you missed your road, turn around and follow me “ he said… ahah we were so laughing about me talking about kangaroos while we were pulled over that we actually missed our road and were getting lost !! All this on camera for the posterity ! At least, we experienced the friendliness of Australian policeman ! (or it just thought that he had to deal with stupid new honeymooners that had no clue of what they were doing ! Who knows… I like the first option better !)
A last glass of wine on the balcony and hop, in bed for a good night sleep (ok, with the help of earplugs as it was the total jungle there with all the parrots and birds around !)
